Srinagar-Jammu highway restored for stranded traffic

Vehicular traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was restored Saturday morning after remaining suspended for four days.

The vehicular traffic was suspended Tuesday morning after a portion of the road caved in at Dalwass and multiple landslides between Nashri Ramban and Ramban Ramsu stretch due to incessant rains.

“After improvement in weather on Friday the restoration work was started by the concerned road maintenance agency engaged by NH1A and the highway was thrown open Saturday morning,” Deputy Superintendent of Traffic Police Ajay Anand said.

He said at least 600 load carriers carrying essential commodities for Kashmir stranded at Nashri and Chenani were allowed to go on priority.

He said that after clearing stranded traffic between Nashri and Banihal stranded traffic at Qazigund was allowed to move towards Jammu.
