Team of officers to address safety concerns of Kashmiri students

Days after Kashmir students were harassed in various states outside Jammu and Kashmir and forced to return home, governor Satya Pal Malik Monday ordered constitution of a team of officers from the Jammu and Kashmir government to facilitate return of Valley-based students to their educational institutions.

A Raj Bhavan spokesman said in a statement that the team would hold consultations with the managements of educational institutions in Dehradun, Uttrakhand, and other premier institutions in other states where a large number of students from Kashmir are studying.

“The team will look into various issues like safety of the students, timely completion of courses, matters relating to attendance and missed lectures by the students,” the statement read, adding: “After reviewing the entire scenario, the team will submit a report to the governor about the overall situation including steps being taken to ensure safe return of the students and catching up with scheduled academic calendars of the respective educational institutions.”

The statement said that some students from Kashmir, in the wake of their safety concerns following the Pulwama attack in February, had returned to their homes.
