Teen allegedly raped in Ganderbal, accused held

Amid outrage over the rape of a three-year-old girl in Bandipora, another teenage girl was allegedly raped in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, police said on Tuesday.

A police official said that the family of the victim, aged about 16 years approached them with a formal complaint on Sunday evening following which investigations were taken up. 

Senior Superintendent of Police Ganderbal, Muhammad Khalil Poswal, told Greater Kashmir that the accused is a resident of Harran area and neighbour of the victim. “He has been arrested and further investigations in the case have been taken up. A case in this regard has been registered” the SSP said.

He said that the medical examination of the victim was done by the doctors and its report is awaited. “A special team has been constituted to investigate the case professionally so that the culprit is brought to book,” the SSP added.

Meanwhile, a police spokesman said that an FIR No. 98/2019 U/S 451/376 RPC section 04 POSCO Act has been registered at Police station Ganderbal.  The spokesman identified the accused as Muhammad Aasif Wani, 20, of New colony Harran, Ganderbal.
