Traffic resumes on highway to relief

After remaining closed for five days, the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was partially opened for one-way traffic on Friday.

The highway was blocked on Sunday due to heavy snowfall in Jawahar Tunnel-Banihal stretch and landslides at Gangroo, Magarkote, Panthyal, Maroog, Anokhifall, Battery Chasma, Kelamorh, Seri, Cafeteria Morh, etc.

The restoration work started on Wednesday after the weather started improving. It took two days for road maintenance agencies to clear the snow and landslides.

Hundreds of stranded vehicles, oil and LPG gas tankers and load carriers carrying essential commodities were allowed to cross the landslide and shooting-stone prone areas of the highway.

SSP Traffic, National Highway, JS Johar said stranded vehicles were allowed for their respective destinations on priority.
