Universities postpone exams, classwork suspended

Amid the prevailing uncertainty in the Valley, University of Kashmir, Central University Kashmir and Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) have postponed all the exams scheduled till August 10.

A KU spokesman in a statement said: “All the exams scheduledfrom 5 to 10 August have been postponed and the fresh dates for deferred examswill be issued later separately.”

   

The varsity administration has also evacuated boarders fromall university hostels and suspended the classwork as well.

Meanwhile, the vice-chancellor of the university, ProfMehraj ud Din said they are vacating hostels and making arrangements to sendthe hostels boarders back to their homes.

“I am personally monitoring it to ensure that students aresent back to their homes safely,” he said. He also said they have suspended theclass work at the University.

The move comes a day after the authorities at NIT Srinagarevacuated all non-local students from hostels and sent them back to their homesin outside J&K state.

The students are being evacuated from hostels in wake of thesecurity advisory issued by government for yatris and tourists to curtail theirstay in Kashmir.

 Public RelationsOfficer Central University of Kashmir Arshad Me’raj said that all the examsfrom 5 to 10 August stand postponed. “Fresh dates for postponed exams will be issued later separately,” hesaid.

The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST)Awantipora on Sunday also postponed all semester exams scheduled up to 9August. “All the semester exams of university have been postponed and freshdates for these exams will be issued later separately,” reads a notificationissued by IUST.

The varsity administration also vacated all the hostels andsent the students back to their homes.

“The students were provided transport facility up to railwaystation while as some students went home by using public transport,” anofficial at the University said.

He said the evacuation of students from hostels means therewill be no class work in the varsity as well till further orders.

“Obviously when we are sending our students back to theirhomes, how can we continue with class work,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor IUST, Prof Mushtaq Siddique however saidthey have not officially closed the University. “We have vacated hostels anddecided not to ply our university buses. We have not issued any order forclosure of university,” he said.
