Unknown persons booked for disclosing victim’s name

The police have booked unknown persons for disclosing the name of a minor girl whose alleged rape on 8 May triggered widespread protests across Kashmir.

 The FIR has beenregistered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) andthe Ranbir Penal Code against the persons who had also uploaded videosrevealing her identity on social media.

   

A police official said that social media accounts thatrevealed her identity are being verified and the persons using these accountswould be brought to the book.

Section 23 of the POCSO Act prohibits publishing any matterwhich may disclose the identity of a minor rape victim.
