National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah on Friday asked Government of India to “shun ego and start a fruitful dialogue” with Government of Pakistan over Kashmir.
“Government of India must accept the offer of talks over Kashmir from Pakistan. Stakeholders from Kashmir should also be allowed to participate in the dialogue process as without them, solution to the Kashmir problem is not possible,” he said.
In a statement, he said the Bharatiya Janata Party wants to revoke Article 370 so that “it could change the Muslim demography of Jammu and Kashmir.”
“Indian forces have got emboldened and encouraged due to presence of BJP in Jammu and Kashmir and are unleashing a reign of terror in Kashmir. The miseries inflicted upon innocent people of Kashmir by Indian forces have been offending the sentiments of world community. India should keep it in mind that it can’t suppress dissent through brute force,” Farooq said, adding: “India is being criticized all over the world for using brute force on civilian population in Kashmir.”
He said the international media is denouncing the Indian operations in Kashmir. “Oppressive and repressive policies including killing of civilians, random arrests, torture, ransacking of houses have only been bringing shame to Indian lap all over the world,” he said.
Urging President Pranab Mukherjee to take note of rights violations taking place in Kashmir, Farooq said India needs to “acknowledge and understand the root cause of alienation and unrest in the Valley” and accept the “criminal nature of the injustice perpetrated against the people of Jammu and Kashmir from time to time.”
