An elderly woman has been admitted to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, with “Coronavirus like” symptoms.
A doctor said the patient has been kept in isolation ward and her samples have been sent for tests to Viral Diagnostic and Research Lab at SKIMS. The doctor said the patient, a woman, was admitted with acute respiratory distress syndrome and “symptoms of Coronavirus.” She had recently returned from Saudi Arabia after performing Umrah pilgrimage.
This is the first suspected case admitted to the hospital. “The patient on her return from Saudi Arabia was neither screened at New Delhi airport nor at Srinagar airport,” said Principal Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, Dr Showkat Jeelani.
Dr Jeelani said the patient was being monitored and her her final reports were expected in three days.
Meanwhile, even as the hospital has established an isolation ward, a doctor said it was not equipped to deal with the situation if more suspected cases were admitted.
“The Viral Transport Medium (VTM) and Personal protective equipment (PPE) necessary for the medical and paramedic staff is not available,” the doctor said.
Dr Jeelani acknowledged they were in need of more VTMs and PPEs.
