1 admitted to GMC Anantnag with ‘Coronavirus like symptoms’

An elderly woman has been admitted to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, with “Coronavirus like” symptoms.

A doctor said the patient has been kept in isolation wardand her samples have been sent for tests to Viral Diagnostic and Research Labat SKIMS. The doctor said the patient, a woman, was admitted with acuterespiratory distress syndrome and “symptoms of Coronavirus.” She had recentlyreturned from Saudi Arabia after performing Umrah pilgrimage.

   

This is the first suspected case admitted to the hospital.”The patient on her return from Saudi Arabia was neither screened at New Delhiairport nor at Srinagar airport,” said Principal Government Medical College(GMC), Anantnag, Dr Showkat Jeelani.

Dr Jeelani said the patient was being monitored and her herfinal reports were expected in three days.

Meanwhile, even as the hospital has established an isolationward, a doctor said it was not equipped to deal with the situation if moresuspected cases were admitted.

“The Viral Transport Medium (VTM) and Personal protectiveequipment (PPE) necessary for the medical and paramedic staff is notavailable,” the doctor said.

Dr Jeelani acknowledged they were in need of more VTMs andPPEs.
