2 Kashmiri medicos awarded gold medal

Dr Omar Salim Akhtar and Dr Amir Rashid, valley-based medicos were among doctors honoured by the National Board of Examinations during its 19th convocation. 

Dr Omar Salim Akhtar, a urological surgeon was awarded the prestigious Dr H S Bhatt Gold Medal in Urology.

   

The gold medal is given to the best performing Urology candidate at the annual National Board Examination in Urology.  

Dr Akhtar, is a consultant urologist and lecturer at the Super Speciality Hospital, Government Medical College, Srinagar. He completed his Diplomate at National Board in Urology at the Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai in 2016. He also worked at the Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai and was Faculty at the Grant Medical College, Mumbai, before taking up his present position at Srinagar. 

Dr Amir Rashid was awarded the Dr H S Wasir gold medal in Cardiology which is given to the best performing Cardiology candidate. Dr Rashid is a cardiologist currently working at SKIMS. He completed his Diplomate of National Board in Cardiology at Shri Chitra Tirunal Institute at Trivandrum, Kerala. 

The 19th convocation of the National Board was held on 21st September at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, and featured wards being given to outstanding students in over 30 disciplines of Medicine and Surgery as well as awards to outstanding teachers of various National Board accredited institutions throughout India. The vice president, M Venkaiah Naidu was the chief guest, and the Union Health Ministers of State, Ashwin Kumar Chaubey.
