The under construction hospital at Bemina here would be meant for pediatric care only as government has decided to do away with a proposal to also provide maternity service under the same roof.
An official said the decision was taken during a meeting recently chaired by Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education Department, Atal Dulloo.
The hospital was initially cleared as a child and mother care institute under a centrally sponsored scheme.
The official said the directions have been passed to the agency involved in execution of the project about the change in the hospital.
The 500-bedded institute would be now Children Hospital with all facilities and all specialties under a single roof.
“There would be no need to refer children to other hospitals for surgeries and other treatments,” said another official. The authorities have set April 2020 as deadline for completion of the hospital.
At present the GB Pant hospital, is the only children hospital in Kashmir which is jointly run by the government and BB Cantonment Board. A gynecology OPD is also run at the GB Pant Hospital.
