Bemina hospital to be developed as Pediatric institute

The under construction hospital at Bemina here would be meant for pediatric care only as government has decided to do away with a proposal to also provide maternity service under the same roof.

An official said the decision was taken during a meetingrecently chaired by Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical EducationDepartment, Atal Dulloo.

The hospital was initially cleared as a child and mother careinstitute under a centrally sponsored scheme.

The official said the directions have been passed to theagency involved in execution of the project about the change in the hospital.

The 500-bedded institute would be now Children Hospital withall facilities and all specialties under a single roof.

“There would be no need torefer children to other hospitals for surgeries and other treatments,” saidanother official. The authorities have set April 2020 as deadline forcompletion of the hospital.

At present the GB Pant hospital, is the only childrenhospital in Kashmir which is jointly run by the government and BB CantonmentBoard. A gynecology OPD is also run at the GB Pant Hospital.
