The sources said that AMCs for critical and costly equipment are an essential requirement as these machines require time to time maintenance.

Patients hailing from this frontier district have to travel to hospitals and private diagnostic centres in Jammu for conducting diagnostic tests with the Computerised Tomography (CT) scanner installed at District Hospital Rajouri lying defunct for want of repairs and maintenance.

Sources within the department say the patients visiting the hospital are suffering as the department has failed to provide funds for maintenance of the CT scanner and no Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) is in place to ensure functionality of the costly equipment.

The sources said that AMCs for critical and costly equipment are an essential requirement as these machines require time to time maintenance.

However, the sources revealed that many a time officers of the health department had appraised the higher authorities including office of Director Health Services Office Jammu about requirement of funds for repairs of the the CT scan machine “but so far the demand has been ignored”.

"As the CT scanner is lying defunct, people are having no other option than to move to hospitals in Jammu and other outer areas so to avail the facility”, an official said, adding even in minor body injuries especially in head, patients are referred to GMC&H Jammu to get CT scans done “which is putting a lot of burden on poor people of Rajouri district”.

When contacted, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Rajouri , Dr. Mehmood Bajar, said that repeated requests for providing funds for AMC of the CT Scan machine have already been made to senior officers of the health department. “As per a recent communication from the office of Director Health Services Jammu, funds for the same will be issued within next few days”, he said.

Meanwhile CMO Rajouri, Dr. Rajeev Sharma told Greater Kashmir that issue about annual maintenance of CT scaner was taken up with senior officers “and now we are expecting that the required funds will be sanctioned within next few days and CT scan facility will be made available to needy patients in district hospital Rajouri”.
