Srinagar: Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda has handed over 1st and 3 rd prizes to the raffle draw winners at a simple function held at Police officers Mess at Humhama, Wednesday.
Winner of the 1 st Prize Basharat Salim, R/O Khag Beeru, who is a graduate RT Teacher was ignorant of the fact that he had had won the first prize in raffle draw. He was told by a constable Nazir Ahmed of Khag police Station that his ticket No: AA-54297 had won the first prize.
The third prize ‘a silver Motor cycle’ went to ASI Ali Mohammed of J&K police.
On this occasion the, DGP Kuldeep Khoda and Chairperson of Police Wives Welfare Association (PWWA), Dr Indu Kaul and other members of PWWA congratulated the Prize winners.
Naib Tehsildars appeal CM
Srinagar: All Jammu and Kashmir Naib Tehsildar Association Wednesday appealed to Chief Minister for placement of Naib Tehsildars under technical grade.
In a statement here a spokesman of the association said while the government has promised of giving Naib Tehsildars a technical grade but till date the orders were not issued. “Government should formulate a general rule, exempting the Naib Tehsildars from undergoing examinations for promotions,” the spokesman said.
He said the Naib Tehsildars, Patwaries, Girdawars, working in the revenue department should be given the technical grade. “Regularisation of the promotees should be given effect from the date of his joining the post along, with the grade. Naib Tehsildars who have attained the age of 45 should be declared senior and exempted from the examinations for promotion,” the spokesman said.
Tarigami urges rehabilitation of youth
Srinagar: State Secretary CPIM M Y Tarigami has said to facilitate the return of youth who have crossed the other side of LoC during the turmoil and want to live a peaceful life, he has moved a resolution in the state legislature during the last budget session.
He said the purpose was to allow the benefits of the ongoing Indo-Pak d‚tente to trickle down to those sections of the Kashmiri youth, who either in a fit of passion or influenced by the abnormal situation prevailing in the state, especially the valley had left their homes and hearths and joined a stream of youth and crossed the LoC.
Tarigami said in view of our party the time had come when these sections of the Kashmiri youth should be afforded an opportunity to lead peaceful and normal life with their families in Kashmir. He said that this would be a significant step towards acceleration of process of peace and reconciliation in Kashmir.
KU to hold seminar
Srinagar: The department of students welfare in collaboration with Indian Institute of Public Administration, J&K regional Branch is organizing a debate on the topic “Inadequate Success rate of Kashmir youth in competitive Examinations” on 1st September at 11:00 am in Gandhi Bhawan.
Vice-chancellor Kashmir University Prof. Abdul Wahid Qureshi will preside over the function while M Shafi Pandit Chairman J&K PSC will be the chief guest on the occasion. GKNN
Fida’s day to be observed
Srinagar: The 42nd death anniversary of Khawaja Lassa Khan Fida would be observed at his shrine at Qazi Mohalla, Islamabad on August 30 (Thursday). Night-long prayers would also be held on the occasion.
Fida was a Kashmiri poet who wrote several Mathnavis (epics) more importantly Gul-Bakawal and Gul-Zare-Haqeqat. Fida was a sufi saint of his times whose followers are found throughout the Kashmir.
Sopur: Block Medical Officer Sopur, Dr Ghulam Hassan Sheikh on Wednesday said that the body of Nayeem Gul, whose torso and head were recovered an year after his abduction from Sopur township last week had been killed six months ago.
“After conducting the autopsy doctors have come to the conclusion that Gul was killed six months ago,” Sheikh told reporters here.
Lok Adalat at Srinagar
Srinagar: A Lok Adalat was held in the premises of Sadder Court Complex Srinagar the other day. Five benches were constituted under the supervision of Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Principal District and Sessions Judge), Srinagar Mr. Mohammad Yaqoob Mir. As many as 254 cases were taken up, of which 152 cases were amicably decided on the spot. A fine of Rs. 63, 950 was realized and compensation of Rs. 14, 83,000 awarded in various accidental claims.
New bus stand in Bandipore
Bandipore: To provide better transport facilities to the people in Bandipore, a meeting was convened here today under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner, Bandipore.
Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner, SDPO and ARTO attended the meeting. The meeting was told that to ease the pressure on the Bandipore market, the bus stand would be shifted to newly constructed bus stand next month.
Varmul volleyball championship
Srinagar: District Varmul Volleyball championship organized by District Varmul Volleyball Association will kick off at Shakivara Varmul on Thursday.
In the championship 25 teams of the district are participating. The Inaugural match of the tournament will be played between Zaned Volleyball Club and Shakivara volleyball Club.

Srinagar: The district Srinagar Table Tennis championship organized by J&K Table Tennis Association will kick off at Women’s College Nawakadal on Thursday.

Deaf and dumb games kicks off
Srinagar: The 5th J&K Silent Games organized by J&K Sports Council kicked off at Polo Ground here Wednesday.
In the tournament the competitions of carom, chess, volleyball, throw ball and athletics will be held in both boys and girls section. The competitions will conclude on Thursday.
Handball tournament concludes
Srinagar: Inter-district girl’s under-14, 17 and 19 Handball tournament concluded at Youth Hostel Srinagar on Wednesday.
In the under-14 final District Varmul defeated District Pulwama by 6-0 goals while as in under-17 final District Varmul defeated District Budgam by 1-0 goals. In the under-19 final match District Varmul defeated District Budgam by 1-0 goals.
Netball championship concludes
Srinagar: The under-19 boys and girls inter-district netball tournament concluded at Youth Hostel on Wednesday.
In boys category, District Islamabad lifted title defeating District Pulwama in the final while as in girls again it was District Islamabad who lifted the title defeating District Srinagar in final.
Srinagar lifts Korfball tournament
Srinagar: District Srinagar lifted the under-19 inter-district Korfball tournament defeating District Pulwama in the final at SP Higher Secondary School on Wednesday.
District Srinagar won the match by 5-0 baskets.
GMC lifts table tennis championship
Srinagar: Government Medical College (GMC) lifted the inter-college table tennis title defeating Islamia College of Science and Commerce (ICSC) in the final on Wednesday.
GMC won the match by 3-2 sets. The tournament was organized by Directorate of Physical Education and Sports department Kashmir University.

In the first match of the day Jehlum Sports defeated Makhdoomia sports by 2-1 goals while as in second match Bilalia Sports defeated Hilal Sports by 4-0 goals. In third match of the day Green Sports defeated Sonwar Sports by 6-0 goals. The tournament is being organized J&K Football Association.
