IMHANS conducts workshop on Child Rights and Mental Health

A training program was conducted by Child Nodal Centre (CNC) of Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (IMHANS) at SMHS Hospital here today.

The program was organized in collaboration with DistrictLegal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar with the support of UNICEF underMental Health and Psycho-Social Support (MHPSS).

   

The workshop was aimed at sensitizing the Para-legalVolunteers associated with DLSA regarding the Rights of children and mentalhealth care. Para-legal Volunteers’ role in the community with regard tosensitization and rehabilitation of persons with mental illness was discussedduring the workshop.

Earlier, Head of Department, IMHANS, Muhammad Maqbool Dar,welcomed the participants and also presided over the session.

Secretary DLSA Srinagar, Adnan Sayeed deliberated on theimportance of mental health and the role of Para-legal volunteers in advocatingthe protection and promotion of mental health rights of people suffering fromvarious mental health ailments. Adil Fayaz Wadoo, Coordinator CNC gave anoverview of the functioning, objectives and services provided by the ChildNodal Center. Lawyer CNC Syed Mujtaba, facilitated the training workshop anddeliberated on Mental Health Care Act, 2017. The role of paralegals in thecommunity with regards to sensitization and rehabilitation of persons withmental illness was also discussed in the workshop. The workshop concluded witha vote of thanks to all the participants for their active participation in theprogram.
