Kangota residents stage protest against health deptt

The residents of snow-bound Kangota village of Kotranka tehsil staged a demonstration against the health department for “attaching staff of the medical sub-centre in the village elsewhere”.

Led by the local sarpanch, a large number of people assembled outside the medical sub-centreKangota. The protesters raised slogans against the health department.

The protesting residents said that Kangota is a snow-bound area and the roads are usually closed. “All the people depend upon the medical sub-centre for health services. But the sad part is that out of the four employees posted in the medical facility, two have been attached elsewhere,” they said.

They further said, “Out of the remaining two employees, one remains absent. So, the remaining employee, who is a safaiwala, runs the entire facility.”

The residents claimed that time and again, they have brought the issue into the notice of the health department, who “continue to be unbothered”. They also appealed to the concerned authorities to ensure that adequate number officials remain posted in the medical sub-centre.

On being contacted by Greater Kashmir, block medical officer, Kandi, Dr Iqbal Malik, confirmed that two officials of the centre are attached elsewhere by the higher authorities. He claimed that he has recently requested the higher ups to cancel the attachments.
