New healthcare facilities unutilized, await inauguration

At a time when post-flood Kashmir has been struggling for revival of health care sector, a delay in utilization of newly developed health care facilities at LD Hospital is affecting maternity care services.

Sources said issue of delay in commissioning of Operation Theater at the newly constructed block at Kashmir’s sole maternity hospital came to fore Saturday during a surprise inspection by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Rohit Kansal.

“When asked why the new OT was not being made functional, he was told that the handover for inauguration was awaited,” sources said.

They said taking serious note of the issue, Kansal has sought immediate handover and commissioning of the facilities.

“A meeting of hospital staff, JKPCC and the PWD is scheduled for Monday under the chairmanship of DC Srinagar Farooq Ahmed Lone to make the OT functional within this month,” said a source. 

Prompted by complaints of poor infrastructure at the hospitals, the administration has started inspection of such facilities to verify the ground situation.

Meanwhile an official handout said Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, RohitKansal, inspected the functioning of City’s premier health institutions including LalDed Maternity Hospital, JLNM Hospital and reviewed their functioning.

The Divisional Commissioner was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone, Director Health Services Kashmir, DrSaleem-ur-Rehman, Principal Government Medical College Srinagar, DrRafiqPampori and other concerned officers.

Kansal took round of various wards of these Hospitals and enquired about the facilities including medicines and heating facilities being provided to the patients.

Div Com interacted with the patients and their attendants and enquired about the facilities being provided to them by the hospital administration.

“The Administrators of these health institutions apprised him about the problems being faced by the Hospital authorities in running these institutions. He assured to take up the issues with the concerned authorities for timely redressal,” the handout said.

“The Div Com also inspected various high-tech diagnostic machines procured recently for the LalDed Hospital. He also inspected latest Eco machine only second in country for cardiac patients at JLNM Hospital Rainawari. He urged the doctors and paramedics to work with devotion to mitigate the suffering of the patients.”
