I had come here at 8 am and as soon as the gate was opened the rush of patients was such that I feared getting lost in the crowd.
The Out-Patient Department (OPD) of SKIMS is witnessing huge rush with thousands of patients dropping in at the hospital every day.
“I developed some abdominal pain this morning for which I was referred to SKIMS but there is so much of patient-rush at the OPD here that my husband has been waiting almost for an hour in the queue to get the requisite card for me,” said by Rafeeqa a patient.
“I had come here at 8 am and as soon as the gate was opened the rush of patients was such that I feared getting lost in the crowd,” said another patient Kamal Khan of Pulwama.
“There is no space left as all the benches and empty spaces are acquired by the patients and by their attendants. The new patients who come here have to wait outside for hours. It is very difficult and discomfortable for elderly people to stand up and wait for such a long time,” said Riyaz Ahmed of Kupwara.
“My mother is very sick as she is unable to stand up but there is no space left even for standing,” said Aqib Ahmed.
Commenting on the issue Director SKIMS Prof Showkat Zargar said; “We cannot stop people from coming to the hospital but unwanted cases must be stopped forthwith for delivery of better healthcare system. Our doctors are working night and day to improve patient-care and that is our duty”.
“The government must initiate the process to have at least one more hospital like SKIMS to improve healthcare facility in Kashmir,” he added.
