Srinagar: Carrying forward his Safr-e-Azadi (Journey for Freedom), Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik on Monday addressed a public rally at Hajin in Sonawari.
Malik, while addressing the rally said, “Sonawari is the place where people have endured grave atrocities.” “But by participating in this march, the people have proved that they have not divorced the freedom struggle despite the atrocities on them,” Malik said. Trade Union leader, Sampat Prakash, accompanied Malik.
Funds employees condole demise
Srinagar: Funds employees, at a condolence meeting held here on Saturday at Fund complex Haft Chinar, Srinaga, under the chairmanship of Kaisar Ahmad Andrabi , expressed profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of the Kamal Simgh, assistant compiler dstrict fund office Samaba, in a tragic accident
The employees observed two minutes silence as mark of respect to the deceased and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.
The Union president also expressed solidarity with the employees of Jammu division on this tragic accident.
DIET Beerwah organizes pre-placement training program
Srinagar: District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Beerwah, under the guidance of SIE, Srinagar, organized six days pre-placement training programme for 179 newly recruited teachers of district Budgam at BHSS, Budgam, and HSS, Chadoora.
The training was imparted to the newly recruited teachers with the aim to acquaint them with the latest techniques. Besides the experts from DIET Beerwah, the experts from SIE Srinagar and College of Education, Srinagar, deliberated on different topics during the programme.
“The inaugural ceremony was graced by the principal DIET and the CEO Budgam, who was the chief guest on the occasion,” said the principal DIET, Beerwah in a statement today.
KPSA meets CEO
Srinagar: A delegation of Kashmir Private School Association (KPSA), Pulwama, on Wednesday met chief education officer (CEO), Pulwama, and apprised him various problems faced by them.
On the occasion, the KPSA president urged upon the CEO to extend the teachers training program to private schools to improve quality of education.
The KPSA expressed gratitude to the CEO for giving them a patient hearing and proving valuable suggestions. The Association asked the its members to back its working committee and participate in its future programs.
Yousuf Memorial Cricket Tourney
Srinagar: In the ongoing 3rd Yousuf memorial cricket tournament, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagr defeated Government Degree College (GDC) Shopian by 29 runs on Monday.
Winning the toss and electing to bat GMC scored 156 runs in the allotted 22 overs for the loss of nine wickets. Ubaid was the the highest scorer for GMC with 34 runs while Basharat (27) and Zafar (26 also contributed vital runs to the total. For GDC Shopian, Saleem and Riyaz claimed three wickets each.
In reply, GDC Shopian fell short by 29 runs as they could score only 127 runs in the allotted 22 overs for the loss of eight wickets. Saleem with 28 runs was the highest scorer for the losing team. Rayees claimed three wickets for the winning team.
Next match of the tournament will be played between GMC and Degree College Varmul. GKNN
Inter District Hockey Tournament
Varmul to clash with Sgr in final
Srinagar: District Varmul will clash with district Srinagar in final of under-17 inter-district hockey tournament at Polo Ground here on Tuesday.
On Monday, four matches were played. In first match, Varmul defeated Pulwama 7-0 while in second match Srinagar defeated Pulwama 1-0.
In third match of the day Varmul defeated Budgam by 3-0 while in fourth match Srinagar thrashed Pulwama 5-0.
The final of the tournament would be played on Tuesday at Polo Ground. GKNN
Inter college handball tournament
Srinagar: Government Physical Education College Ganderbal will clash with Degree College Varmul in final of inter college handball tournament at Kashmir University on Tuesday.
On Monday, second semifinal of the tournament was played between Physical College and Islamia College. At half time score was 6-4 in favor of Physical College. In second half, Physical College gave no chance to Islamia College and won the match 13-5. Islamia College was able to score only one point in second half. GKNN

Islamia College to clash with GMC in final
Srinagar: Islamia College will clash with Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar in the final of inter college table tennis tournament, on Tuesday.
On Monday, two semifinals were played. In first semifinal, GMC defeated Amar Singh College by 2-1 sets. In second semifinal, Islamia College beat GDC Varmul in three straight sets.
Inter district tournaments from today
Srinagar: The 12th phase of inter district tournaments of Kashmir will kick off at two venues of Srinagar on Tuesday.
The tournaments will be held in handball, netball, throwball, softball, korfball and baseball.
Competitions would be held in all age groups during the event. In the tournaments, 12 district teams of Kashmir province are participating. GKNN
