Residents of Pattan in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday said that a new building for trauma/sub-district hospital at Pattan was lying vacant, while the hospital was operating from an old building in a pretty little space.
A delegation of the residents said that the new building had been completed about a year ago. “The old building where the hospital is located does not have sufficient space. The patients and their attendants face inconvenience due to the shortage of the space,” they said.
Mian Ghulam Nabi, a resident of the area said they had several times requested the authorities to shift the hospital to its new building, but “our pleas have fallen on deaf ears.”
Ghulam Mohammad, another resident, accompanying the delegation said there was no fun in delaying the shifting of the hospital. “Had the new building been incomplete one would understand the reason for non-shifting. But when the building is complete in all respects, there is no reason for the authorities to shift the hospital.”
The delegation appealed the governor N N Vohra to look into the matter and issue directions for the shifting of the hospital.
Meanwhile, the delegation also complained that a three-kilometer stretch of the Baramulla highway from Pattan flyover to Baba Teng had not been widened despite assurances by the previous government.
“During the government of late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, a board meeting was held in the district, where a decision was taken that this stretch of the road will be widened. But the decision was never implemented.”
They said this road leads to three districts viz. Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara. “Every day there is huge rush of vehicles on this road. It needs to be widened at the war footing,” they said.
The delegation appealed to the governor N N Vohra to issue orders in this regard so that the road is widened at the earliest.
