Modi seeks report on West Pakistan refugees

Permanent settlement of the refugees has been a key subject in BJP’s election manifesto in the recently held state Assembly election.

Prime Minister NarendraModi has sought a detailed report on various issues related to West Pakistan refugees settled in Jammu and Kashmir.

Permanent settlement of the refugees has been a key subject in BJP’s election manifesto in the recently held state Assembly election.

The development took place after a delegation of the West Pakistan refugees led by state BJP chief and Jammu MP, Jugal Kishore Sharma, met Modi on Thursday and sought his intervention in the matter. The delegation also included RajyaSabha MP Shamsher Singh Manhas, BJP’s state in-charge AvinashRai Khanna, Labha Ram Gandhi, chief of West Pakistan Refugees Committee and others.

Giving details of the meeting, Sharma said that during the course of the meeting Modi directed his officials to further acquaint him with the refugees’ problem through a detailed note. Apart from the issue of recognizing the members of 25,000 refugee families as citizens of the state, the issue of their housing, employment and children’s education was also raised during the meeting.

Sharma further said that the Prime Minister evinced keen interest and promised the delegation to find out solutions to these problems in a time bound manner.
