NIA to quiz arrested Kashmiri couple for alleged IS links

A team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Mondayreached the Delhi Police Special Cell office to question the arrested Kashmiricouple for their alleged links with the ISIS module.

The couple from Kashmir, identified as Jahanjeb Sami, 36 andhis wife Hina Bashir Beg, 39, were residing in Jamia Nagar, and were arrestedby the Delhi Police on Saturday.

   

A team of the NIA officials comprising an Inspector Generalofficer reached the special cell on Monday morning to probe the couple. TheNIA, which is probing several cases of the Islamic States module across thecountry, will probe the role of the couple and with whom they were in touchwith.

The NIA will also probe if the couple received any fundsfrom other countries to recruit the members for the module.

According to the Special Cell, the couple have beenallegedly promoting the Islamic State’s ideology of hatred, and were incitingMuslims to take up the violent struggle against the state. The Special Cell hadalso claimed that the couple was also involved in instigating protests againstthe controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

According to the Special Cell officers related to the probe,during the investigation into the couple’s activities it was revealed that theywere running a social media handle Indian Muslims Unite — to increaseparticipation in anti-CAA/NRC demonstrations.

The police had seized four mobile phones, one laptop, oneexternal hard disc and incriminating material from their house and a case wasregistered against them.

Special Cell Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) PramodKushwah had said that the couple had ties with the Islamic State of KhorasanProvince.
