Supreme Court won’t hear Article 35A pleas today

The Supreme Court will not hear petitions against Article35-A on Thursday, a source said on Wednesday.

These petitions, the source said, did not figure in thefinal cause-list issued by the apex court’s registry on Wednesday evening.

   

“The matter was listed in the advance list but it did notfigure in the final list which came out this evening. So there will be nohearing of the matter on February 28,” the source said.

The matter was listed in the advance list from February26-28.

Whether the petitions will be listed for hearing next weekwould be known on the weekend when the apex court will issue the advancecause-list for the following week, the source said.

A bunch of writ petitions have been filed in the apex courtchallenging Article 35A which empowers J&K legislature to define permanentresidents of the state and grant special rights and privileges to them.

The lead case was filed in 2014 by a little-knownDelhi-based NGO, ‘We The Citizens’.
