Handover Batote-Kishtwar road to BRO

The Batote-Kishtwar National Highway the only road linkbetween Doda and Kishtwar districts has become a death trap for commuters.Authorities had blacktopped part of the road few years ago but now it has wornout.

At many places the road is risky and threat of accidents hasincreased manifolds. The protection walls have collapsed at many places andfresh landslides are causing more damage to the highway. The Nashri bridge alsohas developed large potholes. The first two kilometres from Nashri to Batote arealso in a bad shape. Dozens of vehicles have suffered damage due to thepathetic condition of the highway near Nashri but the authorities are not doinganything.

The maintenance of 115-km Batote-Kishtwar was handed over toRoad and Buildings department but the R&B department has disappointed thepeople.

This highway is the lifeline of more than 7 lakh people ofDoda and Kishtwar as it connects the area with Jammu and other parts of thestate. Its closure affects routine life in the Chenab Valley.

The R&B has not taken any step to clear boulders, bigstones, mud and unwanted materials from the roadside which has reduced thewidth of the road to single vehicle use. The stretch of the road from Assar toPul Doda is the worst affected. We request the Jammu and Kashmir government tohandover Batote-Kishtwar road to Border Road Organisation once again so thatthe condition of this vital road could be improved.

Identify alternative route for school buses

The road between Soura to Hazratbal is an importantcorridor. But this important road has been neglected by the authorities.

This corridor links people of one side with SKIMS Soura andthe people from other side to Dargah Hazratbal, Kashmir University, MughalGardens, Unanini Hospital Habbak, NIT Hazratbal, Unanl Medical College Zakuraand other establishments of public importance.

The commuters face lot of problems while traveling throughthis road due to frequent traffic snarls. The road is a narrow stretch hardly12 to 14 feet wide marred by the large sized school buses plying during schoolhours.  One fails to understand that whohas given permission to these buses to ply in the congested areas. These busesare main cause of frequent traffic jams on this road.

We fear that some untoward incident may take place due tofrequent jams on this road. We request the concerned authorities to identifysome alternative route for these large sized buses to reduce the traffic jamsin this vital  corridor.
