2 youth drown in Udhampur

Two youths from Gujarat died in an attempt to save their friend from drowning in Udhampur’s Birma Nallah alongside the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Friday, police said.

They said that three roadside cloth vendors, basically fromGujarat, had gone to take a bath in Birma Nallah, Udhampur when one of themsuddenly slipped into the river stream and got stuck under the water.

   

In an attempt to save their friend from drowning, 22-year-oldRohit son of Kannu and 20-year-old Suraj son of Rajesh of Gujarat at presentAdarsh Colony, Udhampur, jumped into the river stream, but unfortunatelydrowned, said police.

“Soon after getting the information, locals raised an alarm anda team from police station Udhampur as well as a team of SDRF rushed to thespot. After a two-hour long operation, the bodies of the two youth were fishedout,” police said, adding that the third youth has been rescued.

Later, the bodies were shifted to the mortuary of the districthospital Udhampur for conducting the autopsy, police further said.

A case under relevant sections of the law has been registered atUdhampur police station, while further investigation has been taken up.
