3 killed, 18 injured in road accidents in Jammu: Police

Three people died and around 18 others were taken to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu after they sustained injuries in different road accidents across the Jammu Region on Tuesday, a police spokesman said.

He said that at Hirnagar area of Kathua district, two motorcycles collided with each other, resulting injuries to four people, identified as Shailo Ram (70) son of Bindu Ram, his son, Puran Chand (45), residents of Hiranagar, Kathua; Arjun (24) son of Parshotam and Avinash (25), also residents of Hiranagar, Kathua. 

“The injured were taken to medical college Jammu where Puran Chand was declared dead on arrival while Avinash succumbed to his injuries later in the day,” the police spokesman said, adding that the two other injured were undergoing treatment at the hospital.

At KainkMorh area of KotBhalwal village in Jammu district, the police official said that a 55-year-old man, identified as JagdishChander son of Kaka Ram of KotBhalwal, sustained injures after he was hit by a matador.

“He was taken to GMC&H where doctors declared him as dead on arrival,” said the police official.   

Meanwhile, 16 people sustained injuries in three different road accidents in Jammu and Udhampur districts.

The police official said that one Vinod Sharma (34) son of late Rattan Lal of Sangrampur sustained injuries after the scooty he was riding on was hit by a tractor at Sangrampur. 

At Zero Point area in Chenani district, the police official said that one Muhammad Idrees (28) son of Sharafat Ali of Rampur was injured after the tanker he was travelling in was hit by a truck.

As per the police official, 14 people, identified as Jatin (29) son of Gopi Ram, Love Kumar (28) son of Shankar Lal, both residents of Chhattisgarh, Anjali Pundir (18) daughter of Ranveer Singh of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh,  Chankerdhar (35) son of RajinderMandal of Bihar,  Sudesh (54) wife of Ranveer Singh of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Shano Devi (60) wife of Amar Nath of Ramanagar, Udhampur, Vipan (32) son of Kali Dass of KotBhalwal, Jammu,  Surinder Kumar (30) son of JiaLal of KotBhalwal, Jammu,  Reena Devi (25) wife of Vicky Rana of Saharanpur, UP, her son, KartikRana (10 months), Bala (50) wife of Raj Kumar of Karnal, Haryana,  Amar Nath (18) son of Shankar Lal of Chhattisgarh, RajniBai (25) wife of Amar Lal of UP and ManojMandal (35) son of UmeshMandal of UP, sustained injuries when the bus they were travelling in turned turtle at Nagrota, Jammu.  

The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their family members after conducting the post-mortem in the mortuary of the medical college, while the injured were undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Meanwhile, police have registered cases under relevant sections of the law at concerned police stations and taken up further investigations.
