Former MoS Home and NC leader Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo is the wealthiest contestant having over 10 crore movable and immovable property.
Out of the seven candidates in fray for the ensuing elections for four Rajya Sabha seats of Jammu and Kashmir, five nominees are millionaires with National Conference (NC) nominee, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo topping the list.
According to the affidavit filed by the candidates before the Returning Officer (RO), former MoS Home and NC leader Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo is the wealthiest contestant having over 10 crore movable and immovable property.
As per the affidavit filed by Kichloo, he possesses moveable property worth over Rs 1.3 crore, including property worth Rs 32.60 lakh in the name of his wife and dependent.
Kichloo also owns immovable property worth over Rs 9 crore which includes a Hotel in Katra, commercial building in Kishtwar and residential buildings in Jammu, New Delhi and Kishtwar.
The second richest in the fray is BJP candidate Shamsher Singh Manhas, who owns movable property of worth Rs 32 lakh including 98 tolas of gold worth Rs 28 lakh in the name of his wife and daughter.
Manhas also possesses immovable property worth Rs 4.46 crore, while his wife owns a plot worth Rs 2.5 crore.
NC’s Nasir Aslam Wani and his family own movable property worth Rs 70 lakh and immovable property valuing at Rs 5.22 crore.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Congress stalwart Ghulam Nabi Azad and his family owns over Rs 4 crore movable and immoveable properties.
However, Azad is poorer compared to his singer wife Shamima Azad. Azad has movable assets worth Rs 1, 80, 57,406 and immovable assets of about Rs 75 lakh. In contrast his wife has movable assets worth Rs 1,41,61,830 and immovable assets worth Rs 1.22 crore and their daughter Sofiya Azad has movable assets worth Rs 16,59,724.
Surprisingly the Congress leader, who also had a three-year tenure as the state’s chief minister, does not own a personal house, while his wife owns two houses with one each at Hyderpora Byepass, Srinagar worth Rs 61 lakh and New Friends Colony in New Delhi worth Rs 61 lakh.
As per the affidavit, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nominee Nazir Ahmed Laway possesses moveable and immovable property worth Rs 1 crore.
A businessman by profession, Laway owns Rs 10 lakh movable and Rs 90 lakh immovable property. However, details of the property owned by him find no mention in the document.
Other PDP candidate, Mir Muhammad Fayaz, who is also a businessman, owns moveable assets worth Rs 13.8 lakh and immovable assets worth Rs 65 lakh.
His wife owns moveable assets of Rs 6.8 lakh including jewellery, while there are no immovable assets in her name.
The BJP candidate Chander Mohan Sharma has total family property worth Rs 83.63 lakh. He owns movable property of Rs 7.5 lakh and his wife Rs 30 lakh, including 80 tolas gold.
Sharma also owns immovable property in the shape of land and residential house worth Rs 45 lakh in Jammu district.
