75% faculty positions vacant in Central University Jammu: RTI

At least 75 percent faculty positions are vacant at Central University, Jammu (CU-J).

The revelation have come to fore in resposen to an RTI byactivist, Raman Sharma who had sought information about the reason for thevacant posts.

   

The response from the University said of 22 sanctioned postsof Professors, 17 were vacant.

“The data provided by the University also shows that 32 of44 sanctioned positions of Associate Professors remain unfilled,” reads theresponse.

The varsity also has shortfall of 10 posts of AssistantProfessors of the sanctioned 91 posts,” said Sharma.

He said the “debility” of the University was not onlylimited to vacant posts, but even around 30 percent posts of non-teaching staffwere vacant.

According to the RTI the sanctioned strength of non-teachingstaff at the University is 119. Of these total posts, 35 are vacant.

In response to an RTI query related to steps being taken bythe University to fill the vacant posts, the varsity’s Public InformationOfficer (PIO) has said they advertised the vacant teaching positions more thanseven times from 2015 to 2018 18.

“Due to non-availability of suitable and eligiblecandidates, the posts remained vacant,” he said.

To another question, the PIO said recruitment was an ongoingprocess and did not give any deadline for filling the posts.

The University was established in 2009 and it startedfunctioning in 2011.
