8-year old killed in house collapse, girl injured in Udhampur

An eight year old boy was killed, a girl was injured and one person was rescued from debris in three separate rain- related incidents in Udhampur and Ramban districts of Jammu.

As per officials eight-year-old Pawan Kumar was killed and13-year-old girl Sunita Devi, both from Udhampur, injured in house collapseincidents after heavy rains lashed the region during the last night.

   

“The minor boy died on spot after his house located in cityoutskirts Loundna collapsed due to rains while the teenage girl was injuredseriously in similar incident in Udhampur city. She was taken to a hospital whereher condition was stated to be critical,” the officials said.

Central Reserve Police Force troops saved a man trappedunder a landslide on Jammu-Srinagar Highway in Ramban district.

As per Jammu-based CRPF PRO Ashish Kumar Jha, “A trained dogof CRPF, accompanying a bomb disposal squad, alerted the troops when theyconducting checks at the highway.”

“The canine, Ajaxi, started giving alerting signals onreaching mile stone 147. Following the cue from the dog, the troops begansearching and found the man trapped in the landslide which had occurred theprevious night,” he added.

He further added that in rescue operation troopers managedto pull out trapped Pradeep Kumar, a native of Ludhwal village Ramban.

The intermittent rains also triggered a landslide atMorhPassi near BalliNallah along the Jammu-Srinagar Highway, blocking the onlyall weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country.

In view of the heavy rains, the movement of pilgrims alongthe new track to the Vaishno Devi shrine was suspended by new Himkoti track asa precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident. However, the pilgrimswere moving towards the cave shrine through the traditional HathiMatha routeold route.

The movement on Zojila pass connecting Ladakh division wasalso restricted for 4.30 hours to carry out maintenance work.

As per an advisory issued by Border Roads Organization, roadusers were informed about closure of road from 10 am, to 1.30 pm daily forconducting maintenance work.

“This is for your kind information that Srinagar-Sonamarg-Ghumri road from kilometers 95 to 108 will remain closed for all kinds oftraffic from 10.00 am to 1.30 pm daily for road widening through blasting,” theadvisory reads.
