Ahead of Pak poll, Gen Rawat reviews security along LoC

Amid the sensational political storm in Pakistan and upcoming general elections in the country, Indian army is reviewing military preparedness along the western frontiers facing Pakistan. 

Following his visit to Pathankot formations, chief of army staff General BipinRawat on Saturday reviewed security situation and operational preparedness in the areas south of the PirPanjal range in Jammu region.

   

General Rawat, along with Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh, Commander of the Northern Command, visited Akhnoor where the General and senior officers were briefed by Lieutenant General Saranjeet Singh, GOC White Knight Corps, Major General MK Mago, GOC Crossed Swords Division and other formation commanders on the operational preparedness, prevailing security situation and actions being undertaken to ensure a robust and effective counter infiltration grid.

“The chief lauded the morale of the troops and was confident about the preparedness of Indian Army to meet any threat manifested by inimical or anti national elements,” The Jammu-based defense spokesperson told Greater Kashmir.

He further added that the army chief also reviewed the measures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) instituted and being followed by the units and formations.

“The Chief also commended the field commanders for ably confronting the challenges posed by the inimical elements and complemented them for their professionalism and selfless commitment. He exhorted all ranks to continue to work with same zeal, enthusiasm and dedication to overcome the challenges,” the spokesmen added.

Sources said Army Chief’s visits on western front hold great significance in view of ensuing elections in Pakistan.

Earlier this week the chief visited Mamun Military Station, Pathankot, where he was briefed about overall situation along the western front facing Pakistan in sensitive border districts like Jammu, Samba and Kathua of J&K and Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar belt of Punjab.
