Allow free travel on Mughal road: Locals

People in Rajouri and Poonch have appealed to the Divisional Commissioner Jammu to allow free travel on the Mughal road.

The Mughal Road connects Poonch district with Shopian of Kashmir region and commuters should be allowed to travel on it.

Speaking to Greater Kashmir, locals of Rajouri and Poonch districts said that many ailing people prefer going to Srinagar than to travel to Jammu for medical treatment.

“Many people go to Srinagar every month for medical check-up. However, such people have not been able to get themselves treated since the imposition of restriction on travel on Mughal road,” said a local, Muhammad Showkat.

Muhammad Ilyas, a resident of Saujiyan said that “His father is a cancer patient who is undergoing treatment at SKIMS, Soura. He needs medical checkup every month. This time, they were not able to get him treated timely.”

“The authorities should allow free travel on Mughal road. It is not possible for Poonch residents to travel 250 km to get permission from Jammu and then return back to Poonch to take further travel from Mughal Road to Srinagar,” the residents said.

Instead, they said, the Government should authorize District Magistrates of Poonch and Rajouri districts to give travel permissions so that the people do not face unnecessary harassment.

Deputy Commissioner, Poonch, Rahul Yadav said that “It is mandatory to have permission of the Divisional Commissioner to travel on Mughal road.”
