Arms smuggling module busted: Police

Police on Monday claimed to have busted an arms smuggling module by arresting two over ground workers of HizbulMujahideen at the Lakhanpur entry gate.

“Acting on a tip off, police intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK13B-2321 and apprehended two persons both resident of Chersoo, Awantipora district Pulwama,” senior superintendent of police Kathua, ShridharPatil told Greater Kashmir.

   

“It has been learnt from reliable sources that a group of accomplices of active militants of HizbulMujahideen is operating in the shape of a module in Jammu and Kashmir for purchase and supply of arms and ammunition for the organisation”.

Patil said the arrested duo associated with HM was “specially tasked for smuggling of arms and ammunition and supplying the same to militants.”

The SSP said Rs 71,000 were also seized from the accused and a case (FIR No. 03/2019) under section 13 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention Act), 120-B/RPC, 7/27 Arms Act was registered in police station Lakhanpur.

“Investigation in the case is going in right direction and more arrests are expected in coming days,” Patil said.
