Army provide arms training to VDC members

To strengthen security situation at ground level in the hinterland, Army is providing weapon training to Village Defence Committee (VDC) members in Jammu province, an official said.

 He said, “Armyregularly meets VDC members in most remote areas of Jammu province, whereanti-national elements always try to revive militancy.”

   

“During these interactions VDC members are provided trainingto handle weapons and they are also made aware about important aspects ofsurveillances,” they added. “The VDC members have been asked to keep closewatch on activities in and around their areas and inform local police or armyunit in case of any suspicious activity or movement,” they added.

“Interactions with VDC members is regular feature for Army,”said, Lieutenant colonel Abhinav Navneet, defence spokesperson of Udhampurbased Northern Command.

“One such programme was organized at Samote, Rajouri, whereVDC members were imparted training about weapon handling and cleaning. Theywere also aware about musketry, firing positions and minor repairs of weapons,”he said.”Locals were appreciative of such meeting andtraining session which not only enhance the bond between the Army and peoplebut also boost the morale of the locals which helps in maintaining peace andharmony in the region,” he added.
