Army reviews security situation ahead of Yatra

Days before the start of Amarnath Yatra, Army Commander Northern Command, Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh visited hinterland posts and forward bases in Jammu’s Akhnoor and Reasi sectors to review operational preparedness and prevalent security situation.

Accompanied by White Knight Corps Commander, Lieutenant General Paramjit Singh, the Army commander visited some sectors, which are important from security point of view, an official said.

During the visit to hinterland posts, the Army Commander was briefed on preparation of the formation for upcoming Yatra and measures being instituted in ensuring a safe and conducive environment for pilgrims.

He was also briefed on measures initiated to monitor the intrusions and infiltration bids on Line of Control (LoC).

The Army Commander interacted with the soldiers and complimented them for their dedication to duty, selfless devotion and high standard of professionalism, said an official, adding the Army Commander exhorted all ranks on the need to remain vigilant to counter “nefarious designs” of the enemy and anti- national elements.

The 46-day annual Amarnath Yatra is to begin from July 1 on two routes. The pilgrimage will conclude on August 15.
