Army reviews security situation ahead of Yatra

Days before the start of Amarnath Yatra, Army Commander Northern Command, Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh visited hinterland posts and forward bases in Jammu’s Akhnoor and Reasi sectors to review operational preparedness and prevalent security situation.

Accompanied by White Knight Corps Commander, LieutenantGeneral Paramjit Singh, the Army commander visited some sectors, which areimportant from security point of view, an official said.

   

During the visit to hinterland posts, the Army Commander wasbriefed on preparation of the formation for upcoming Yatra and measures beinginstituted in ensuring a safe and conducive environment for pilgrims.

He was also briefed on measures initiated to monitor theintrusions and infiltration bids on Line of Control (LoC).

The Army Commander interacted with the soldiers andcomplimented them for their dedication to duty, selfless devotion and highstandard of professionalism, said an official, adding the Army Commanderexhorted all ranks on the need to remain vigilant to counter “nefariousdesigns” of the enemy and anti- national elements.

The 46-day annual Amarnath Yatra is to begin from July 1 ontwo routes. The pilgrimage will conclude on August 15.
