Army urges people to preserve environment

Army’s Nagrota based White Knight Corps urged the people of Jammu to preserve environment and plant more and more trees.

The environmental awareness initiative of the White KnightCorps called ‘Parivartan’ was conceptualized by Dr Bandita Singh, ZonalPresident, White Knight Army Wives Welfare Association. General OfficerCommanding of 16 Corps Lieutenant General Paramjit Singh has led from the frontin environment awareness programmes in Jammu region over the past year.

   

As per programme Army has organized marathon nature walks,lectures in addition to plantation of nearly 12000 saplings in Nagrota.

White Knights Corps have now ventured to sensitize theresidents of Nagrota to keep their surroundings clean and green.

In this connection a program was organized for students ofArmy Public School, Nagrota wherein an innovative street-play was staged togenerate environmental awareness among the residents of the town.

The students conveyed message of environment preservationthrough simple street-plays, which culminated at Kol Kandoli Temple.

Dr Bandita Singh, an ardent advocate of good environmentpractices herself, felicitated the students as well as Sulabh Sharma, anupcoming local singer and other artists who performed at the event.

A simple song accompanying the street-play urged people thatthe age-old practice of burning garbage, use of polythene bags and plastics,responsible for smoke and air pollution, should be abandoned.

“Scientific evidence of the health hazards of burninggarbage are well known. Garbage burning is the most convenient way to disposegarbage and resorted to by almost everyone. This has to change if we have tomake the air cleaner and livable for our generation” said Rakshit, aparticipant and student of Class 11.
