Senior BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP) leader and Councillor from Sakti constituency Gyal P Wangyal was on Tuesday elected as fourth Chief Executive Councillor of powerful Ladakh Autonomous Hill development Council (LAHDC), Leh.
The election was held at Council Assembly Hall, Leh, where elected Councillors unanimously elected Gyal P Wangyal as Chairman/CEC of LAHDC, Leh.
Presently deputy CEC of LAHDC Leh, Wangyal was front runner in the race for the top post after the post fall vacant due to resignation of incumbent JamyangTseringNamgyal (JTN), who was elected as Member of Parliament in the recently held LokSabha polls.
CEO, LAHDC/Deputy Commissioner Leh, AvnyLavasa who is also the election officer declared the results and later presented winning certificate to the newly elected CEC Gyal P Wangyal.
BJP has a majority in 26-member LAHDC-Leh after winning 17 of the 24 seats. Congress managed only six seats while National Conference got two. One seat was bagged by an Independent.
