CB produces chargesheet against PHE cashier for siphoning

Crime Branch (CB) on Tuesday produced charge-sheet against a cashier of PHE department for embezzling Rs 1.64 crores, in the court of Anti Corruption Bureau here.

An official said the accused, Nikhil Gandral, is in judicialcustody in district jail Ambphalla, Jammu.

   

The accused had committed misappropriation and embezzlementof Rs 1.64 crore out of the revenue collected as water charges.

Thecase owes its origin to a complaint lodged by PHE, city division No 1, Jammuagainst Gandral of Greater Kailash, while he was posted as the cashier in theoffice of executive engineer.

Taking cognizance of thematter, the CB registered a criminal case (FIR No 02/2020) and startedinvestigation.

During the probe, documentary, oral and circumstantialevidences were collected and it was established that the accused had committedcriminal breach of trust by misappropriating the government funds which wasentrusted to him in his capacity as the public servant.

The revenue collected bysub-divisional staff was deposited in the division headquarter with the accusedfor its further remittance into Treasury.

The charge-sheet wasproduced after the government accorded sanction to prosecute him, in the courtof special judge anti corruption, Jammu.

The CB is also probing the role of another person, InderpalSingh of Nanak Nagar and some officers of the PHE department.

The name Singh surfaced inthe case as conduit for laundering of embezzled money. The main accused hasbeen suspended from the services.
