Centre invites Vohra to first meeting of Governing Council

A Raj Bhawan spokesman said the Governor held discussions with Principal Secretary, Planning & Development B R Sharma and Principal Secretary, Finance B B Vyas.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra has been invited by the Centre to attend the first meeting of the Governing Council of NITI AAYOG on February 8, officials said.

In this regard, the Governor Monday held extensive discussions to “identify the contours of the State Government’s approach to the proposed operational framework of the Aayog” which has been constituted to replace the erstwhile Planning Commission.

A Raj Bhawan spokesman said the Governor held discussions with Principal Secretary, Planning & Development B R Sharma and    Principal Secretary, Finance B B Vyas.

“The meeting highlighted special concerns of Jammu and Kashmir particularly in context of the huge resource gap in funding the annual plans and the need for long-term planning for balanced development of the State,” the spokesman said.

“It was felt that any strategic planning for J&K’s development should factor in the availability of State’s natural resources and skill sets with innovative and sustained capacity building efforts to harness its full potential.”

The meeting emphasised the need for imparting the requisite flexibility to the State for meeting its requirements while undertaking any planning exercise.

“It was also noted that any planning for J&K’s growth must reckon the higher cost of delivery of public services in the State  besides the missing multiplier effect in view of the inadequate local capacities,” the Raj Bhawan said.
