Class 12 pass percentage improves in Jammu

The class 12 results of Jammu division for which the results were declared by JK Board of School Education (BOSE) on Wednesday have shown an improvement in pass percentage of government schools by four percent.

The figures reveal that 24 students from government schools figure in the list of top 10 position holders in all the three streams – arts, commerce and science. The exam for class 12th students in Jammu division was conducted in March.

   

As per the figures released by JKBOSE, a total of 37858 students – 20588 boys and 17270 girls – from government and private schools appeared in exams of which 20656 students – 10391 boys and 10255 girls – qualified.

The figures reveal that the overall pass percentage is 54.56 percent which was only 51 percent in 2016.

In arts stream the first 10 positions are shared by 16 students of which 13 are from government schools. The first position in commerce and science stream is shared by government school students. The first top 10 positions in commerce are shared by 12 students including five students from government schools. In science stream the first 10 positions are shared by 26 students including six from government schools. 

The number of students who got distinction in science stream is 2940, in commerce it is 658 and 649 in arts stream.

While the government schools have shown a significant improvement, the pass performance of private schools is not much impressive given the number of schools who have failed to produce above 20 percent results.

At least 27 private schools have below 20 percent results while in government sector the number of such poorly performing schools is only 20.

In some private schools having below 20 percent results, the number of students who appeared in class 12th exams was less than 20.

Secretary school education department Farooq Ahmad Shah has complimented the school heads and the teachers of government schools for producing colorful results. He also appreciated JKBOSE for declaring results within allotted time.
