Congress party’s Mir woos Pandit voters in Jammu

President of the Congress party’s J&K unit Ghulam Ahmed Mir Wednesday said his party will do everything for safe, secure and dignified return of Kashmiri pandits and their rehabilitation.

Mir is contesting from Anantnag parliamentary constituencywhich goes to polls in three phases between April 23 and May 6.

   

Addressing an election meeting in Jammu’s Roopnagar, Mirsaid that Kashmir and Kashmiriyat was incomplete without Kashmiri Pandits.

“Our ultimate goal is to create a congenial atmosphere inthe Kashmir valley for the return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Migrants,” hesaid.

“Until that goal is achieved it is essential that allfurther necessary measures are required to be taken care of for their dignifiedliving and to secure the future of the youth of this community.”

Mir added that displacement of the Kashmiri pandits was apainful chapter of Kashmir’s history.

Listing the achievements of UPA-I and UPA-II governments forthe displaced community, Mir said, “Facilities for pandits’ stay in Jammu aswell as transit accommodation in the valley was provided by previous Congress government.”

The Kashmiri Congress leader said that Congress-ledgovernment also provided around 3000 government jobs to youth of migrantcommunity in Kashmir valley.

He however regretted that BJP which claimed to be championof their cause failed to take and carry forward the Congress party’sinitiatives for the pundits or implement any result-oriented package for theirwelfare and rehabilitation.

He appealed to migrant voters to use their influence andprevail upon all the electorate to give him a chance to serve them andstrengthen his party.
