In order to mobilise their support, All India Congress Committee (AICC) will launch two programs, “Samvidhaan Se Swabhimaan” and “Manifesto Consultation Program” for Dalits in Jammu and Kashmir from January 2019.

Dalits constitute 7.6% of the state’s population and 19.4% of Jammu’s population as per 2001 census report.

“Most probably, our party will launch both the programs for the Jammu and Kashmir Dalits from the first week of January,” AICC coordinator of SC department and incharge J&K, Suresh Kumar, on Wednesday said.

According to him, AICC president Rahul Gandhi launched the “Samvidhaan Se Swabhimaan” and “Manifesto Consultation with Dalits” in the country in October, this year.

Under the Samvidhaan Se Swabhimaan, Kumar said the Dalits in the state would be sensitized about the special rights enshrined in the Constitution of the country for them.

“They will also be sensitized about the attempts being made by the BJP-led NDA government in Delhi and BJP governments in other states to curtail these rights and weaken the institutions of the SC community across the country,” he said.

“We will hold programs at district and block level, where our party’s SC department will make the Dalits aware of their rights,” Kumar said.

The broad idea behind the “Manifesto Consultation Program with Dalits”, according to Kumar, is to go to people and ask them about what they want from Congress party.
