Chief Secretary, B B Vyas chaired a video conference on Friday with the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of the state to review the district wise performance of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) – Gramin (G) programme.

Five districts from J&K were declared open defecation free (ODF), which included Leh, Kargil, Shopian, Srinagar and Pulwama.

Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Secretary, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Sheetal Nanda and Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan Mohammad Nazir Sheikh were present in the meeting while as Deputy Commissioners from various districts of the state participated in the meeting through video conferencing.

While appreciating the overall progress achieved in the last ona and a half month, Chief Secretary called upon the Districts lagging behind, to work in mission mode to complete the programme of national importance before the target date, set for each district.

Significant progress has been recorded in districts like Rajouri, Anantnag, Kupwara, Pulwama and Baramulla.

Chief Secretary directed the Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag, Srinagar, and Ganderbal to give impetus to the construction of community toilets along the Shri Amarnathji Yatra route, so as to complete the task in the next seven days.

Chief Secretary also gave a slew of directions regarding ODF verification process, IMIS uploading, sustainability of SBM (G) assets in districts already declared ODF and conducting mass awareness programmes on sanitation.

Against a target of 11,79, 568 J&K has achieved a target of 7,79,933, while as 3, 90,001 has to be achieved, which covers 73.62% of total coverage.

With regards to SBM (Gramin), it was informed that till date 2,93,462 Individual Household Toilets (IHHTs) have been constructed in the State, since Prime Minister’s review of the flagship Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) – Gramin (G) programme.

It was informed that District Pulwama was recently declared Open Defaecation Free (ODF), taking the number of ODF districts in the state to 5. Further, districts Anantnag and Kupwara are currently at 99.48% and 97.63% respectively and are expected to be declared ODF within a few days. The Geo-tagging of the units in the state as on date is at 63.24%

He further directed the district administrations to put additional focus and undertake parallel works for Geo-Tagging of units, verification and for uploading the financials on MIS regarding the SBM (G).

The CS also directed for constitution of interdepartmental teams to support RDD in verification of assets being constructed under SBM. GKNN
