Delaying statehood will alienate people further: PC

Peoples Conference (PC) senior vice president Abdul Gani Vakil Monday reminded the Government of India (GoI) to fulfill its promise of restoring statehood in J&K without any delay.

A statement of PC issued here quoted Vakil while addressing district committee and office bearers at PC’s Jammu headquarters as saying that it was surprising that the Home Minister was not fulfilling the promise made by him in the parliament last year and this year.

“Statehood to J&K should not be delayed further as it leads to further alienation of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. On one side GoI is committed to statehood to J&K but on the other side Lieutenant Governor ManojSinha-led administration is changing laws and making amendments beyond their mandate,” he said.

Vakil said that PC would continue its struggle to convince and influence GoI for the restoration of Article 370 and Article 35-A as it had all along been a bridge between J&K and rest of the country.

“Abrogation of Article 370 was a big political blunder of the BJP government as it has distanced the people of J&K from the mainstream which is not in the interest of the nation,” he said.

The statement said that senior PC leader Bashir Ahmed Dar criticised both the J&K government and GoI for not fulfilling its promise to provide employment to the educated youth.

“No doubt big statements are issued for providing jobs to educated youth but till today nothing is seen on the ground,” he said.
