Dussehra was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
The festival is celebrated to mark the victory of good over evil. Series of events were held at different places in Jammu where effigies of Ravan, his brother Kumbkaran and son Megnath were consigned to flames.
In Jammu city, a grand Shobha Yatra was taken out by Sanatan Dharam Sabha before Dussehra celebrations at Parade.
A Jhanki after passing through various markets reached the Parade ground this evening where ‘Pooja Archana’ was performed by the governor’s advisor B B Vyas, who was chief guest on the occasion.
MLA (Jammu East) Rajesh Gupta, MLC Ramesh Arora, principal secretary Rohit Kansal, divisional commissioner Jammu Sanjeev Verma, IGP Jammu SD Jamwal, deputy commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar were among prominent persons present on the occasion.
The advisor Vyas while addressing a gathering said: “This festival commemorates victory of good over evil, thus inspiring us to create a better society to live in. Such festivals remind us that those who follow the path of virtue and goodness always emerge victorious.”
CHENAB VALLEY
Dussehra was also celebrated with enthusiasm, communal harmony and religious fervour across Chenab Valley.
At Bhadarwah, a grand function was held at historical Seri Bazaar where large number of people watched the burning of effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkarana and Meghnath.
On the occasion, a victory march (Shobha Yatra) was taken out while a traditional ‘Rath Pooja’ was also performed.
At Kishtwar, the main function was held at Plate ground where officials and locals participated in the celebrations.
A colourful procession commenced from Ram Leela Ground Kishtwar and passed through main bazaars of the town and finally culminated at the Plate ground.
In Ramban functions were organised in the premises of Government High Secondary School (GHHS), where the effigies were torched.
The function was organised by Sanatan Dharam Sabha and Dussehra celebration committee, Ramban.
