First batch of Amarnath pilgrims to leave from Jammu tomorrow

Amid multi-tier security cover, the first batch of pilgrims for annual Amarnath Yatra will leave from Jammu’s Bhagwati Nagar base camp on June 30.

The pilgrims, including sadhus, have started arriving inJammu from different parts of the country.

   

As per officials, first batch of the pilgrims will leave forBaltal base camp in Ganderbal district during early hours followed by anotherbatch of pilgrims for Pahalgam base camp in Anantnag district, under tightsecurity.

The administration has also provided geo-tagging to vehicleand registration of all convoy vehicles has been made mandatory.

The pilgrims will start their onward journey to the3,880-metre high holy cave shrine on July 1, to mark the start of thepilgrimage, which is scheduled to conclude on August 15.

“All arrangements are in place to ensure smooth and peacefulpilgrimage, which is a symbol of brotherhood and communal harmony,” a senior securityofficial said.

Pilgrims have option to reach the holy cave ether viatraditional 36 kms route from Pahalgam or the shortest alternate route of 12kms from Baltal. Helicopter service has also been made available for thepilgrims form Baltal side.
