Geelani condemns ED notices to Shabir Shah’s daughters

Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani on Friday strongly condemned the ED notice to daughters of incarcerated leader Shabir Ahmad Shah, arrest of JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik by NIA and shifting him to Tihar jail, repeated quizzing of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and shifting of Jamaat-e-Islami and other religious leaders outside the state.

In a statement Geelani said, “Shabir Ahmad Shah has spentmost of his life in jails and for the past two years  he has been lodged in Tihar jail for the lasttwo years. He is in their custody to answer any question and issuing notices tohis minor daughters is an undemocratic act.”

Reacting to the JKLF chief Yasin Malik’s arrest by NIA andshifting him to Tihar jail, Geelani said, “Kashmiri leaders and workers are notalien to these jails and interrogations. Putting them behind bars on decade oldfabricated cases is nothing but a tactic to pressurize them,”

Geelani said, “Continued quizzing of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq forfour consecutive days is nothing but a ploy to threaten the leadership to stayaway from the genuine demands of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

He said, “Shifting of Jamaat-e-Islami and other religiousleaders to outside jails, is condemnable. The courts have categorically opposedthe shifting of prisoners away from their homes, but rulers don’t care about.”

Meanwhile, Geelani expressed deep grief over the killing ofminor boy  the 12-year old Owais AhmadMir by the security forces at Mandigam, Kupwara and injuries to several othersin Baramulla on Thursday.
