Governor must uphold the dignity of his office: Tak

Member legislative council FirdousTak Wednesday said that the governor Satya Pal Malik must uphold the dignity of his office by remaining apolitical.

Reacting to the recent statement of the governor, the Peoples Democratic Party MLC and spokesperson FirdousTak said that the governor holds a constitutional position which warrants him to be apolitical and work for ensuring popular government to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“We must remind the governor that needs to maintain the sanctity of his office and uphold the constitutional parameters of the state,” he said in a statement, issued here.

He further said that governor of a state is not part of any political party and giving political statements tantamount to be part and privy of such organizations. “The presidential rule and the present setup arrangement is not the permanent structure of a democracy. The people of the state have right to get popular government elected by them and they are the best judge of any organisation and its leadership. The governor, by trying to demonize political setup, was not doing justice with the basic structure of the constitution,” he said.

“The statement clearly alludes that the governor is playing a proactive role in state politics than to remain the watchdog of state governance,” Tak said, adding that the governor has himself remained a politician throughout his life and has served people in various capacity. “The sudden hatred against political establishment only undermines the principals he has lived with,” he added.

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti met a youth from ShadiwanPulwama, who was allegedly beaten by security agencies leading to his hospitalization. “It is not Mufti alone, but every citizen of the state must feel the pain of such youth. The security agencies are not above law and cannot be allowed to violate it,” Tak said, adding that instead of holding a probe and ensuring justice to the citizens of state, the governor has made an objectionable remark which is condemnable.

Tak further said that it is prime responsibility of the state to safeguard the lives of its citizen and to lessen the growing alienation in the Valley.
