Governor reviews security situation

Governor Satya Pal Malik was Thursday briefed about thesecurity situation across Jammu and Kashmir by his advisor Vijay Kumar in wakeof developments in the last few days, officials said.

During the State Administrative Council meeting, thegovernor

   

was briefed about the “overall law and order and obtainingsecurity scenario during the last few days and the measures taken by the civiland police administration to maintain peace and harmony across the state”, anofficial spokesman said in a statement.

“He (governor) was informed about the steps taken/beingtaken to ensure smooth supply of essential commodities and services besidessafe passage to the stranded passengers,” the statement read.

The governor was also informed that the district-levelofficers both from the civil and police administrations are touring their areasof jurisdiction regularly for assessing the situation on ground and are inregular touch with the civilian population, the statement read, adding: “Theyare holding regular interactions with the people to instill confidence andallay apprehensions, if any”.

The governor was informed that frisking is being done by thepolice to prevent any untoward incident while vital installations have beensecured and necessary steps taken for their protection, the statement read.

“The governor complimented the people of the state formaintaining peace and calm and for their mature response. He appealed thepeople not to pay attention to any rumours and that government willappropriately inform them of any development, as and when required,” thestatement read.

The governor directed the civil and police administrationsto “maintain a close watch over the situation”.
