Govt constitutes SLAC for plastic waste management

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday constituted the state-level advisory committee (SLAC) for plastic waste management. 

An order issued from the general administration department read, “In pursuance of Rule 16 of the plastic waste management Rules, 2016, notified by the union ministry of environment, forest and climate change, sanction is hereby accorded to the constitution of a state-level advisory committee.”

   

As per the order, administrative secretary, housing and urban development department, has been appointed as the chairman, while director, ecology, environment and remote sensing department, J&K, member secretary, state pollution control board, commissioner, state taxes department, commissioner, Jammu municipal corporation/Srinagar municipal corporation, an expert from local body (to be nominated by the housing and urban development department, an expert from non-governmental   involved in waste management (to be nominated by the social welfare department), representative of plastic association, drug manufacturers association/chemical manufacturers association, an expert from   the field of industry (to be nominated by industries and commerce department), an expert from the field of academic institution (to be nominated by the school education department), and any other officer or expert as may be co-opted by the chairman of the committee, if required, have been appointed as members.

Besides, director, urban local bodies, Jammu/Kashmir has been appointed as the convener.

The order further states that the terms of reference of the state-level advisory committee shall be to   effectively monitor implementation of the plastic waste management Rules, 2016, and to meet at least once in six months.

Besides, the state-level advisory committee shall be serviced by the housing and urban development department, the order states.
