Govt implements Central RTI Act in J&K, appoints First Appellate Authorities, Central PIOs, APIOs

Jammu and Kashmir Government Wednesday appointed officers to implement the Central Right to Information Act 2005 in the newly created Union Territory.

The erstwhile State of J&K had its own RTI Act. After October 31 – the day when J&K became a Union Territory – Central RTI Act became applicable and accordingly the Government today made the appointment of officers to deal with the RTI applications.

As per an order, sanction was accorded in term of section 5 (1) and 19 (1) of the Right to Information Act 2005 to the appointment of officers in the office of Financial Commissioner Revenue as First Appellate Authority, Central Public Information Officer and Assistant Central Public Information Officers to dispose the applications or appeals under the Central Act.

In this order, the Government appointed Joint Financial Commissioner (Revenue) Rajinder Singh Tara and Director Planning and Statistics Zulfikar Ali Banday as First Appellate Authority (FAA); Administrative Officer (R) with FCR, ZA Dewani, and Deputy Director (P&S), K.A. Kassana, as Central Public Information Officer (CPIO). Assistant Director (P&S) Mohammad Afzal, Reader (Agrarian) Kessar Ahmed Zargar, Section Officer (NG) Ravi Kumar and Section Officer (G) Satish Kumar have been appointed as Assistant Central Public Information Officers (ACPIOs).
