‘Govt to organise Investment Summit soon’

Jammu and Kashmir will be organising an ‘Investment Summit’ in Jammu within a month or two, the Governor Satya Pal Malik said Thursday.

“The Investment Summit will offer a job opportunity for around 5000 unemployed youth. There will be investments, as is the case with Gujarat, Uttarakhand and other states,” he told Greater Kashmir in an interview.

The Governor said that the state administration has decided to appoint and post liaison officers in 11 major cities across India who will be the first point of contact in case youth of Jammu and Kashmir studying in these cities, face any problems. “The liaison officers will report any incident that the students bring forth to an IAS-level officer, who is posted at Jammu and Kashmir house in New Delhi. As a result, the students will not have to run from pillar to post in getting their issues sorted out. The liaison officers will be posted within a week,” he said.

He said the contractual teachers used to get a break from services for three months but “we have decided to lessen this time to two-and-a-half months.”

“As far as incomplete and languishing projects are concerned, all of them will be indentified. We have decided to take Rs 8000 crore from banks, out of which Rs 2100 crore were sanctioned on Wednesday. The work on all the projects will start at an earliest and by April, most of them will be completed,” he said.

After Kashmir was affected by floods in September 2014, around 1573 businessmen or business houses of Srinagar lost their records to avail tax benefits. “We have decided to waive off their taxes,” he said.

The Governor said around 20,000 houses will be constructed for police officers.

“We have also decided that a toll free number will be started from Friday, on which people can register their complaints in case of any issues with the power scenario across the state,” the Governor said.

“For places where there are no electric poles or wires, people will be provided with solar equipments, which can easily run around 5-6 light bulbs,” he said.

“We have identified around 8000 hospitals across the country as part of the prime minister’s Ayushman Bharat project, which aims at providing the poor people to get treatments upto Rs 5 lakhs free of cost,” he said.
